March 9, 2009 Redwood City, CA - Ampex Data Systems Corporation today announced a contract award from L-3 Integrated Systems to supply rugged Ampex miniR® 700 airborne high-definition video data recorder systems. The recorder systems will support the Air Force's new MC-12W Intelligence-Surveillance-Reconnaissance (lSR) aircraft. These platforms, dubbed Project Liberty Aircraft, will augment the heavily tasked ISR assets employed by the U.S. military and its coalition partners.
"The miniR® 700 recorder is a fully integrated, multi-channel, high-definition video and digital data recorder," said Don Downing, Ampex Business Development Manager. "The unique architecture of our miniR 700 solid-state recorder system enables it to collect and replay the full motion video generated by the advanced L-3 WESCAM MX-IS True HD Sensor.
"We are extremely proud to have been selected by L-3 Integrated Systems for this very important program," said Lawrence Chiarella, President of Ampex Data Systems. "The Ampex miniR® 700 product line offers the very best in airborne data recording technology to support multi-mission ISR platforms. Our selection for the Project Liberty program builds on our ongoing effort to be the world's foremost provider of airborne mission recorder systems."
Project Liberty was created in response to Defense Secretary Robert Gates' initiative to better support warfighters on the ground with increased ISR in theater.
